Is Chat GPT really that smart?

Unless you’ve been locked away on a penal colony in Siberia for the past few months, then you’ve probably heard about “Chat GPT.”

It has become the buzzword on every broadcast network, technology forums, chat groups and social media. Chat GPT has become synonymous with terms such as “revolutionary”, “global disrupter” or even “the next frontier.”

If you are a digital minimalist like myself, and shy away from all the noise of new products, then you probably tried to ignore the plethora of information related to Chat GPT. But some things in life just cannot be ignored, So I decided to get off my high-horse of indifference and join the swarm of curious minds in investigating what people are going crazy about.

Depending on your definition or criteria of intelligence, what everyone really wants to find out is how smart this AI tool is. Over the years I’ve dabbled with a few AI tools which on the surface seamed amazing, but after using them for some time, cracks would emerge and you would instantly see the gaps between human capability and these tools.

So, my goal is to try and find these holes within Chat GPT, to see if it’s just another AI tool which promises to revolutionise the world. One of the main reasons I have decided to take this tool serious is because, the spectacle and hype about Chat GPT is very similar to when the internet was on the horizon and you couldn’t go anywhere without seeing the peculiar symbol of “www” which seemed so strange back then, but has become so ubiquitous with our modern lives.

My personal subjective opinion of what makes AI intelligent is divided into 3 criteria’s, So I have based my questions on these.

These types of questions are what makes the human brain unique and special and if this tool can achieve this, then I’m pretty sure it is going to cause some serious change in the world.

1.The awareness and ability to articulate complex social issues in a lucid and concise manner.

2.The ability to solve problems which require intuitive models of thinking.

3.Philosophical questions which transcend logical reasoning.

In Conclusion

After spending a week playing around with Chat GPT, I have come to the conclusion that this is a mind-blowing tool, which will without a doubt shift the trajectory of how we do things in the future.

I am however not a part of the fear mongering cliques, who fear the loss of jobs and the destruction of educational institutions due to Chat GPT. I’m more optimistic just like the introduction of the internet, which definitely did make a lot of jobs obsolete. But at the same time created millions more and developed brand new industries.

However I do see this tool as a big threat to those people who are unable to learn new skills. They will definitely suffer, since Chat GPT will remove those monotonous, mind-numbing tasks which don’t require much creativity or mental capacity.

So, it is in every working professionals interest to take this threat seriously and analyse if this tool is in direct competition with your industry. See if you need to make changes in your career and pivot towards a direction where you can use Chat GPT to enhance your work.
